I began writing this blog as a way to record my progress renovating an old Dolls House Emporium Classical dolls house which I built from a kit in the 1980's. It has now evolved into a blog about my ever increasing collection of dolls houses and the items I buy and make to put in them.

Hope you enjoy it.

Re-painting the house

Been busy these last 2 days re-painting the house. First an undercoat of white emulsion to hide the blue then 2 coats of 'gentle yellow' and its looking good.

Now to tackle the windows, patio doors and spiral staircase with oak varnish, this may take some time.

Miniature Groceries

Normally I hate grocery shopping but I couldn't resist buying these on Ebay.

They arrived today and are just like the real thing. Was thinking of trying to make my own mini printables but it looks really fiddly and I'm not sure how to do it. If anyone has any tips please get in touch.

Start of my new project 'Waterside Way'

Just finished off my secret (DHE Garden Pavillion) project this week and it's looking good. Going to enter it in the competition although looking at previous winners I've got no chance :'(. Will put photos on my blog after the competition deadline (31st Aug) as I don't want anyone copying me ;).

I'm now ready to start my new project 'DHE Waterside Way'. Was trying to get some exterior decorating inspiration from the internet and found a 2 bed apartment for sale in the real Waterside Way in Wakefield for £260,000. I presume it was the inspiration for the dolls house version as it looks very similar.
I bought this house part built and painted blue but as I already have a blue house I am going to repaint it yellow (to match my kitchen). Just need some 'me' time to get started which is not easy as we are mid way through the school holidays and I have loads of boarding animals to look after as well as the kids. Am going to oak stain all the woodwork including the spiral staircase and paint the roof grey. This is what it looks like at the moment:

Welcome to my blog 'Miniature Marvels' all about my new hobby collecting and making modern dolls house miniatures.

Well technically my hobby is not that new as I started my dolls house collection about 25 years ago when I bought a Dolls House Emporium Classic dolls house kit and built and decorated it myself. I bought a few sets of traditional period furniture (Victorian I think) as that was all that was really available at that time. I soon got bored of the dark wood period style furniture and accessories though and so the house was put into a guest bedroom. During subsequent house moves, my children being born, etc. the house was moved into the garage where it got hidden under layers of dust & grim.

Two years ago we decided to extend our home by adding a bedroom and bathroom above the garage and converting the garage into a larger kitchen, utility room and store. Everything in the garage had to be stored elsewhere and the dolls house got moved once again into the conservatory. Due to heat and sun damage all the windows turned yellow and most of them fell out, it was really quite a sorry sight. My daughter (now aged 9) began playing with her Sylvanian Family dolls in it and so I decided to fix it up a bit. I ordered some new windows and acetates from The Dolls House Emporium catalogue and while browsing was amazed at all the 'modern' furniture and accessories now available.

I now love sourcing miniature items which I actually have in my own home and am looking forward to buying and making items when time and money allow. I have just bought a part made Dolls House Emporium 'Waterside Way Apartments' from a fellow (local) dolls house enthusiast and will be blogging my progress building and furnishing it.
Wish me luck x
