I began writing this blog as a way to record my progress renovating an old Dolls House Emporium Classical dolls house which I built from a kit in the 1980's. It has now evolved into a blog about my ever increasing collection of dolls houses and the items I buy and make to put in them.

Hope you enjoy it.

Modern ebay buys

Bought a few items off ebay last week and they arrived over the weekend.

First item was this OOAK pram.  I have been looking for a modern pram for a while now but they are very expensive new (over £50) so when I saw this one on ebay I really wanted it.  There were a few bidders but I got it at £25 + postage which I was quite happy with.

These two items were from a different seller.  Again I have been looking for a modern hoover but not too expensive.  The white chest of drawers and mirror will go in the shabby chic bedroom.

Here are the drawers and mirror in the room box.

Mavis has been doing a bit of gardening and is quite pleased with how it looks.

New Items for O'Rourkes

Bought a few items for O'Rourkes from DHE yesterday and they arrived this morning. Most of the items were in this months special offer brochure and I just spent enough to get the free hat. The only thing not going in O'Rourkes will be the orchid as it will go in one of my modern houses, I just love orchids.

Basic Furnishing of the Tea Room

Have decided to go with the Edwardian tea room idea and thought I would try furnishing it with some spare bits and pieces I already had just to see what it looked like. Most of the furniture is cheap stuff I bought when I first started collecting and will be updated when I find better items. I bought all the cakes, one of the white cabinets and some of the crockery at the recent Edinburgh fair. The plate display shelves were a freebie from DHE. I am quite surprised how good it looks already even with so little items.

Theme for O'Rourkes

Have decided to go with an Edwardian theme for O'Rourkes as I am going to be doing modern in my Magpies & Jenny Wrens.
Have just been doing a bit of online research into the Edwardian era and found out that the first ever tea room in Britian was opened by Stuart Cranston in Glasgow in 1875 (he was a tea dealer) and also that the famous Willow Tea Room in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow was designed by Charles Rennie MacIntosh in 1904. I was going to do a modern tea room in Magpies and have already started buying items but now wondering if I should do an Edwardian tea room instead since I am Scottish. I have far too many ideas going through my head at the moment and need to make a decision soon, lol.

My New House - DHE O'Rourkes Post Office

Bought this house today from Paula who was selling it as she had run out of space.  I have a notification on Gumtree for dolls houses for sale locally to me and it kept popping up in my emails so think I was meant to buy it :D.

Wallpapering Jenny Wren's

Today I started wallpapering my new Jenny Wrens which is going to be a hair salon with beauty room upstairs.  I wanted a modern but girly theme so decided on grey and pink wallpaper with wood effect flooring.
Downstairs will be the hair salon.
Upstairs which will be the beauty room.

Papering this side was difficult.
Papering this side was even harder as the stairs were already glued in place.

Shabby Chic Bedroom Room Box

I have bought quite a few dolls house items lately and really wanted to see what they looked like in a room setting. I had built a room box a while ago but had never got round to deciding what to do with it so it had never been painted or decorated. Today I though I would use some of the cheap wallpapers and flooring I had bought in a sale at the Sue Ryder charity shop to make up a bedroom setting for my shabby chic purchases.Rather than pasting the wallpaper directly to the walls I cut out some false walls from cereal boxes and used a glue stick to stick the paper to the card. I did the same with the flooring and just pushed them into place. I realised that the flooring didn't really go with the wallpaper so cut another false floor from card and found a paper which matched the dado rail on the wallpaper exactly. The great thing about using card is that I can now change the decor anytime I want. Here is the room with my new shabby chic purchases in place.I will need to re-paint the fireplace and shabby up the wardrobe a little and get a few more bits and pieces but it looks promising so far :).

Miniature Fair in Scotland

Finally made it to my first ever dolls house miniature fair at The Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston near Edinburgh. Not a huge number of exhibitors but enough for me to find a lots of things to buy and get some contacts for future purchases. My favourite exhibitors were the doll makers, what amazing work. Bellabelle Dolls and Giddy Kipper make wonderful character dolls and I was especially taken with the witches. Grace Mary Miniatures makes beautiful period dolls and I would love to get a Tudor couple but will need to save up a bit first.

Here are all my purchases together: The cabinet came with all the cakes in it and I also bought the cake with slice, 6 cupcakes, 4 doughnuts and all the china from My Tiny World, they will go in my new Magpies tea room.
The fish bowl and jars were made by Glasscraft, there was so much choice I didn't really know what to buy so just ended up with 3 items.
These were made by Val at Unique Miniatures and will go in the Shabby Chic bedroom.
Just loved these tiny necklaces made by Little Gems Jewellery, think I might try to make some myself though as I still have some tiny beads left from a beading course I did a couple of years ago. These are some random items I found. Just loved the dog basket and bird house, going to try decoupage on the mannequin and bought the Scenic Water to try various projects,
Looking forward to going to the miniature fair at York in June now as it is on 3 floors with around 90 exhibitors, Yey!

My Small Animal Boarding Business.

Thought you might like to see my small animal boarding business at it's busiest. This is the last time it will look like this as I am stopping boarding after the Easter holidays. Have done it for 4 years now and have really enjoyed it but as I have school age children I am finding it difficult to get any holidays myself as I am always fully booked during school holidays. At the moment I am looking after 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 giant rabbit, 1 giant snail, 2 gerbils, 4 mice, 5 hamsters, 12 guinea pigs and 17 tropical fish, phew.

Weird Weather and New Buys

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of weeks but have had other (non-mini) things to do.

Last week in Aberdeenshire we had the warmest weather in Britian. Westhill hit 21 oC and just a few miles further inland at Aboyne it hit a record breaking 23 oC for March. Our neighbours were sunbathing but as I don't do sunbathing I did some early gardening instead. This week (just as the Easter school holidays started) it all changed and we had a major snowfall last night. Here is a photo of the same bit of garden this morning. Not sure if this weird weather has anything to do with global warming or not but it is certainly keeping us on our toes.

Now back to mini stuff - I haven't had time to do anything on my Magpies or Jenny Wren's recently but have bought a few more items. These were purchased from Delph Miniatures for my new mini hair salon. The back wash basin comes attached to a unit with mirror which I didn't want as it wouldn't have fitted under the stairs of Jenny Wrens as I planned. I really wanted a back wash sink though so asked them if I could just buy the sink on its own. They were really helpful and made me one specially, thanks Delph Miniatures :).
