I began writing this blog as a way to record my progress renovating an old Dolls House Emporium Classical dolls house which I built from a kit in the 1980's. It has now evolved into a blog about my ever increasing collection of dolls houses and the items I buy and make to put in them.

Hope you enjoy it.

Making Tablecloths for the Tea Room

Finally got round to making the tablecloths for the tea room. Found 6 matching white ladies handkerchiefs in a charity shop for £1. Measured the diameter required then found a slightly larger plate to draw round. Cut out the circles. Found some old jars with bases the same diameter as the tables and placed the material over, held in place with elastic bands. Sorted the folds so they looked like how a tablecloth would hang then sprayed all over with spray starch. Left to dry then glued to table tops and cut round the bottom of the material to even up.

Also removed the old 'O'Rourkes Post Office' sign ready for the new tea room one.

Got this beautiful quilt today and it looks fab on the bed in my Edwardian Tea Room.  It was hand made by Deborah Lane of Debs Handmade Dollshouse & Home

1/12th Scale Vintage Car

Look what arrived today from Pearl at Literature in Miniature (the same lady who made my miniature furred Ruby), it is a replica of a 1907 Rolls Royce.  Just need a posh Edwardian Lady being dropped off at the tea room by her chauffeur now.

My New Lilliputs

OK here are the 12 new Lilliput Lane cottages from the auction which I will be keeping.  This first 4 are larger than the others and my favourites are Gardeners Cottage and The Great Equatorial observatory as they are so detailed.

More Lilliputs and another Portrait Brooch

Last Tuesday my mum and I took my kids to the John Milne auction house in Aberdeen for a look as it was viewing day.  There was a tray lot of 14 Lilliput Lane cottages I was interested in but we were going off the Yorkshire the next day which was the day of the actual auction.  I asked the auctioneer what he thought they would go for and he said about £20-£25.  There were some really nice ones and there didn't seem to be any damage so I decided to leave a maximum bid of £35 with the auctioneer.  My mum phoned them on the Thursday (the day after the sale) and found out I had won the lot for £30 with fees of £6.30.
When I got home I opened the box and dusted and checked each one.  A couple have some very tiny chips which I can easily paint out using acrylic paints.  I also already have two, The Croft and Bridge House so I will probably try and sell those on ebay.  I now have a total of 41 Lilliputs in my collection but still haven't spent more than £100 :).  I will put on individual photos in my next post.

I also bought another portrait brooch on ebay last week.  This is my most expensive one yet at £20 including postage but it is stamped Limoges and I just loved it.
This little painted brooch I found in a charity shop last week for £1.50.

Miniature Edwardian Tea Room Update

I was down in Yorkshire at the weekend and managed to get to a couple of dolls house shops on the way, The Dolls House Emporium shop in Carlisle and The Miniature Scene in York.  Had my kids with me so didn't get as long as I wanted to in the shops but did manage to get a few new things for the tea room, a sink with draining board and curtain, a silver tea set, the mantle dogs and a pretty clock.  Still need a few more items to make it more homely upstairs and going to add lots of pictures downstairs in the tea room.  Also looking forward to meeting the first customers :).

Another Lovely Portrait Brooch

Ebay is just far too tempting.  Couldn't resist this lovely portrait brooch with pearl beads which I paid £13.99 for including postage.  It was slightly over my budget but oh well ;).
