I began writing this blog as a way to record my progress renovating an old Dolls House Emporium Classical dolls house which I built from a kit in the 1980's. It has now evolved into a blog about my ever increasing collection of dolls houses and the items I buy and make to put in them.

Hope you enjoy it.

The Priory Restoration

Have started restoring The Priory.  Cleaned everything this weekend using a clean, dry paint brush, the vaccum cleaner and furniture wipes.  It now looks and smells soooo much nicer.

Today I fixed the broken windows using these matchsticks as they are exactly the right size.

I also glued back on the chimneys.

Here is the house looking much better already.

New House - The Priory

I have been a bit naughty and bought a massive Dolls House Emporium Priory off Ebay.

This is a discontinued house and I have been after one for ages but there was never any for sale near me, well at an affordable price anyway.  Luckily I managed to find a courier (via Shiply) willing to deliver it from Leeds up to Aberdeen for a reasonably price so I put in my maximum bid and won.  The next thing was to sort out payment as the seller had wanted cash on collection.  We worked out a deal that I could pay via Paypal if I also paid her fees which seemed fair to me.  The courier collected it from her yesterday at 8am and it was delivered safely to me at 9.45 this morning.

Here are a couple of photos of the interior, I just love the central staircase.

It is quite dirty and dusty inside but should clean up OK, that will be my job for the weekend.  There are also a few broken windows and I will need to paint the exterior woodwork as it is yellow.  Haven't managed to check the lights yet as they are wired up to an old transformer which isn't working.  I might have to do a bit of rewiring.

There were also 2 large boxes of furniture and accessories which I spent today unpacking and cleaning.  Don't know where this house was stored but everything was really dirty and musty smelling.  Will keep some of the items and probably sell the rest on Ebay after Christmas.

Check out the size of the fruit bowl in this pic, not sure what scale that is, lol.

Magpies Dolls House

Been working on my DHE Magpies house today.  Fitted the hinged roof on and reglued the windows and door to the front as they fell off when I dropped the whole front on the concrete floor, oops.  I have decided to leave the front as a removable section for easy access, just need to make sure I don't drop it again.

It's Christmas

It's Christmas time in the Classical.  Charlotte (my daughter) and Ruby (our dog) are checking out the presents under the tree.

I have also bought some Lemax Christmas Village items this year to make a small display.  These items are approx 1/48th scale but are fantastically details with lights and sounds, some even have  movement like the figures on the skating rink and seesaw.
I repainted this figure to look like my daughter cuddling our dog.

Modern Dolls House Dining Room Furniture

I managed to find some modern dolls house dining room furniture which nearly matches my real life furniture.  The table, chairs and sideboard are by Streets Ahead and the dresser with the baskets is from the Dolls House Emporium.
The table is set for a tea party and you can just see the dogs bed in the corner
.
Here is a close up of the miniature cranberry glass items made by Glasscraft and bought at the Edinburgh Dolls House Fair.

Making Miniature Bedding & Some New Edwardian Items

I made a miniature duvet and pillow for my mini sons room in my Classical dolls house today.  Went for a modern stripy fabric but think I will now have to change the wallpaper and carpet.

I couldn't resist buying some items for my Edwardian Department Store.
And this is the family who will live in the Edwardian house.

Miniature Chair Revamp

Here is another item of dolls house furniture which I have just revamped.  Couldn't resist this chair as even though it had no back it had really cute castors on the front legs.

Here it is painted with my favourite Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint, waxed then sanded to give a shabby chic look.  I then made a new cushion and chair back by gluing padding then fabric onto card.

This is the back of the chair with another piece of fabric glued onto card then stuck in place.
Here it is in place in the shabby chic bedroom.

Adding a Lit Fire to your Dolls House

Though I would try making the living room of my old Classical a bit cosier by adding a lit fire.  I bought this fire which has a red bulb that fits into the back from the dolls house fair in Edinburgh when I was there in Spring.  It was really easy to fit as you just need to drill a tiny hole through the back wall, take off the plug to push the wires through then re-attach the plug.  You then just fit the bulb into the hole at the back of the fire and push it against the wall.

The next thing I did was paint this plain wood fire surround with Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint.  I had tried spray painting it first but the paint just didn't stick so I wiped it off.

I used a couple of coats of chalk paint but it dries really fast then rubbed on some Annie Sloan clear wax to seal the paint and give it a slight sheen.  I then used a gold pen and some gold card making stickers to give it a bit of detail.  The blue tile backing is just a piece of tile effect paper stuck to card.

The fireplace then just slipped behind the fire.

The new fireplace and lit fire definately gives the room a much cosier feel.
